About Us
Canadian Nuclear Laboratories is a federal company completing the Port Hope Area Initiative on behalf of the government of Canada.
The Port Hope Area Initiative is a community requested cleanup of approximately 1.2 million cubic meters of historic low-level radioactive waste from various major and residential sites in Port Hope. The project also includes the construction of an engineered aboveground mound where the historic waste is being safely contained for long-term monitoring and maintenance at the Port Hope long-term waste management facility.
The Port Hope Project is ongoing in 2026. The Port Granby Project was complete and moved to long-term monitoring in 2022.
